So what is NLP or Neuro-Linguistic Programming?
NLP stands for
Neuro which translates to Neurology
Linguistic which means Language
Programming which relates to thinking and behavioural patterns
Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) describes the fundamental dynamics between mind (neuro), language (linguistic) and how their interplay affects behaviour (programming). Since the conscious mind is generally within your control and the unconscious mind is not, NLP works in a way that helps you understand how your unconscious mind works so that you can achieve the results you want in life. E.g. the unconscious mind listens to every thought and emotion that flows through you and therefore, you must give it clear and specific directions consistently if you want to see a successful outcome. Whether it is to break unproductive habits, increase your sense of motivation or enhance your communication skills, NLP has you covered. Some would go as far as to say that NLP is the user manual for your mind as it helps you understand how to overcome your mental barriers and hack your way to success.
What are the Benefits of Learning NLP?
Some of the many benefits that learning NLP has to offer are:
Better communication skills- As with understanding the way your mind functions, with the help of NLP you would be able to better understand the dynamics of verbal and non-verbal communication, and structure your thoughts and behaviour more concisely.. This would go about helping you to become an effective and reliant communicator.
Boost in confidence- Confidence is king, confidence can be programmed and confidence is the cornerstone to success. NLP helps you understand the inner workings of confidence and how you would boost it by yourself with a few tricks. NLP also teaches you how to better handle your emotions in a productive manner.
Leveraging your unconscious mind- This would help you with understanding the various aspects of your mind as well as understanding your inner workings. By understanding yourself better, you are able to seize opportunities better and make the most of what you have.
Practical Uses of NLP
How does it relate in terms of profits for a company?
For employers and their employees, it allows for a boost in productivity in terms of the various aspects learnt from NLP. When employees are taught how to reach their fullest potential, they simply perform better as they apply the techniques learnt in NLP to enhance the many aspects of their professional lives. Obvious benefits would be such as the improvement in communication skills; this would highly benefit businesses in terms of cutting back on communication errors and time. The employee who has learnt NLP will be able to make better decisions based on their understanding of communication dynamics with their colleagues and clients. Other benefits are that individuals too would be taught how to best utilise their time and make better judgements based on prioritization. The list of benefits is generally formed from the source which is your workforce. A happier employee would contribute more positivity as well as productivity which has a “knock-on effect”. Now imagine 80% of your workforce being highly productive? This would then definitely make the business more profitable.

Tips and Tricks
A few tips and tricks on what to expect from a NLP training session
Changing your apology to a thank you –
The simple act of saying ‘sorry’ can be quite easy to give but waiting for the other person to accept it can be quite difficult, however this little tweak might help. This is best explained with an example, so for instance if you’re late for a meeting instead of using the repeated line “Sorry I’m late” give this trick a try “Thank you for your patience”. This would switch the narrative of the person from “you should be sorry!” to “That’s fine.. I guess”. This happens due to empathizing with a person and understanding their feelings.
You are great BUT-
Surely most of us have been in the situation where we pause to the dreaded word ‘BUT’. This word has a relatively negative aspect to it, why is that? We get this feeling because it is a word of rejection. No one likes to be on the receiving end of it hence instead of ‘but’ try to use ‘and’ or ‘also’
Next time you have to decline someone’s offer an example would be, “I would love to meet up with you and it is just a shame that I’ve got an event to go to”.
