Elon Musk can simply be defined as a “Thrillionaire”. A person who spends money for the thrill of it. He has revolutionized transportation by introducing cars that run on batteries with “Tesla”. He has helped reduce the cost of space travel by 90% with the introduction of “SpaceX”. What’s more impressive is that Musk has done all this before turning 50 (He is currently 46). 1) He was bullied as a kid

According to his mother, while schooling in South Africa Musk was subjected to bullying due to him being the youngest and smallest kid his school. Musk’s brother Kimbal was also subjected to bullying as a child.

2) He taught himself computer programming at the age of 12

Soon after his parents bought him a computer he taught himself computer programming and created a video game called “Blastar”, which he sold for $500.

3) He co-founded PayPal

In 1999 he launched a company called “X.com”, an online banking company. Around a year later “X.com” merged with “Confinity”, a financial startup and formed “PayPal”. 2 years later “PayPal” was sold to “EBay” for $1.5 billion.

4) He has featured in a bunch of Hollywood films

Musk has featured in movies such as “Iron Man 2” and “Why Him?”. He has also featured in TV shows such as “The Big Bang Theory, “The Simpsons” and “South Park” in which he portrays himself.

5) He has been married three times

He met his first wife Justine Wilson while attending Ontario’s Queen University. They married in 2000 and divorced 8 years later. Musk married English actress Talulah Riley in 2010 but later divorced in 2012. The couple remarried in 2013 but had their second divorce in 2014.

6) He is the 53rd richest person in the world

As at March 2018 Forbes has estimated his net worth to be around $20.8 billion. His wealth has been mainly down to his ownership of billion Dollar companies “Tesla” and “SpaceX”.

7) He nearly went broke trying to fund Tesla and SpaceX

In 2008 he stated the following, “I could either pick SpaceX or Tesla or split the money I had left between them”. Due to the Falcon 1 failing in its first three launches, “SpaceX” was on the brink of bankruptcy. With the fourth attempt being a success fortunes changed for the company and Musk.
